1. Eight hours prior to surgery eat a light, easily digestible meal. You will not be able to eat again for approximately ten hours, so it is important to eat at this time. Avoid alcoholic beverages and retire early to be well rested.
2. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK FOR EIGHT HOURS PRIOR TO SURGERY (INCLUDING WATER) unless you are instructed otherwise. Please be sure to eat a light meal just prior to the eight hour deadline (see above) so that you are prepared to tolerate this fast. CONSUMPTION OF FOOD OR LIQUIDS DURING THE EIGHT HOUR FAST PERIOD MAY REQUIRE CANCELING YOUR SURGERY AS ANESTHESIA CANNOT BE ADMINISTERED OTHERWISE.
3. Loose fitting, comfortable clothing is recommended. Please do not wear jewelry.
4. A responsible person should drive you home and remain with you for twenty-four hours. We cannot permit you to leave by bus or cab, as there must be someone available who is responsible for your care. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE should you attempt to drive an automobile from the office after your surgery.
5. In some instances the doctor will ask you to begin medications prior to surgery (ie. Antibiotics or Motrin). Please refer to your prescription and follow as directed. If you are on medications for high blood pressure or heart disease, continue to take your normal dosage with a small sip of water. If you have asthma, bring your inhaler with you.
